Oh, parenthood...
If you're a parent, you understand how bringing a child into the world rocks your entire being and changes your world for the better. If you are a soon-to-be parent, whether it's still just a dream in your heart or you're currently feeling the little pokes and kicks from the squirmy babe you're carrying, you will soon realize this. You'll realize that parenthood is one of the most challenging but most rewarding jobs you will ever be given. It will stretch you and test you and force you to dig deep within day after day to be the best you can be for the sweet gift you've been given. Life will never be the same, and you won't wish for it to be. It's such a precious gift that helps shape you into who you were created to be, and it's worth documenting!
Time passes in the blink of an eye.
Another thing you realize very quickly is how fast it all goes. In the blink of an eye, your tiny, squishy newborn isn't so small anymore. He or she starts to smile, laugh, roll over, scoot around, sit up and (ah) walk! You find yourself thinking, 'how is this already happening?!' Ya better believe it will flash by in an instant. One thing I'm finally learning is to embrace it. To learn to be okay with how quickly time passes, but at the same time learn how to be present, to notice and to hold on to the moments I know I'll cherish forever. Photographing pieces of my family's life helps me to preserve and hold on to those special memories, so we can relive them anytime we want and, most importantly, pass those memories on to our children one day. Not only am I passionate about doing this for my family, but for others as well! Everyone deserves to have their stories documented.
So, why newborn photography?
So why is newborn photography important in this journey - the story of your life? As a mother myself, I know the power of pulling out old photographs, especially ones from the very beginning, and reliving those special, special memories. I'm reminded of when our son came into our lives and lit up our world, changing everything for the better. All the sleepless nights, the long, challenging days, the endless feedings and diaper changes, the feelings of doubt and inadequacy as a mother... Those memories fade away and I'm left seeing how full of joy and beauty those days held, and I see it with such clarity. When you're smack dab in the middle of it all, it can be so easy to miss. But in retrospect, it is all so clear. The love, the strength, the happiness, the blessings... It's been there since day one. No matter where time takes us and no matter where the journey leads, we can always look back and see that the love was there from the very start. I don't know about you, but I think that's pretty special. And what's even more special is that your child can look back and see where it all started... Where their story began and how much their parents absolutely adored and cherished them, from the very beginning.
I personally don't think it matters whether you're documenting your life with your iPhone, point and shoot camera, fancy camera or video camera... I just hope you're doing it. The gift of capturing your child's and family's memories is priceless and you will never regret taking the time to do it!
I've had the honor of meeting so many amazing families and their sweet new babies over the last several months. Life has been busy and I haven't had the time to blog all their sessions, so I thought I'd overwhelm you with a ton of cuteness all at once by sharing bits and pieces of all of them!
